I met up with Hollywood F.L.O.S.S at the Lee & Joe Jamail Skate Park last Sunday. I must say the day way excellent! Texans won, it didn't rain on us (a little toward the end), and I got a chance to hang with and get to know some really cool people.

RR: You ready?
HWF: I’m ready.
RR: Ok cool. I am just going to ask you questions. I read all of your of your stuff (giggles)
HWF: Wow.. I mean I commend you.
RR: Well, I didn’t read ALL of it fully but, I read most of it.
HWF: Ok.
RR: First question- where are you from? Are you from Houston?
HWF: Yes- Houston, TX born and raised here. The Heights and Missouri City.
RR: What high school did you go to?
HWF: Lamar High School
RR: And you graduated college from….
HWF:U of H
RR: What was your major
HWF: Marketing and Entrepreneurship

RR: Ok, I don’t know if you are tired of people asking you this but when I was reading all of your blog press a lot of people were talking about the name.
HWF: Yes, it’s about the name now days. It’s not about the music anymore.
RR: No, it’s about the music. I am just saying that was a comment that I noticed.
HWF: Oh yeah it’s cool. I like that they are taking notice.
RR: How did you come up with the name?
HWF: It started off FlossyB, that was a nickname. I grew up poor, but I was a rich poor; meaning I had both of my parents and they could afford things every now and then. I could get some Jordans or a new Polo shirt but not as much as someone rich could. At the same time, everyone in the hood couldn’t get that stuff so they would say “oh you are flossin.” My real name is Bruce, so then it kind of went to FlossyB. I was like man I can’t be a rapper named FlossyB, it just sounded too corny to me. I thought let me do something where it’s Hollywood Floss. I did it because you don’t know if I’m a rapper. When you are doing venues they will judge you if you’re just a rapper so… you don’t know if I’m a rapper, a band or country western. Hollywood Floss is so out there that when you say it, you are going to remember it.

RR: Ok.
HWF: It’s marketing technique behind it.
RR: You know you are the first person to email my blog and send their information?
HWF: For real?
RR: Yeah, the very first person so..I’m excited!
HWF: Well, I’m happy. I saw you and I was like well, let me reach out.
RR: Is that what you usually do?
HWF: It’s 50/50. Some people come up to me and some I just go out and get it myself. I want to go out and meet people, that’s what I’m about.
RR: Ok, next question. How did you come up with the album title
HWF: I was just playing around with it and was like what can I come up with. I know I like to do club stuff, I like to have fun but I also like serious and positive hip hop so what is a way I can convey that. The “art” which is the b-boys, the emcees and the “fiscal” is what people say for the money. Even if you do a club track it doesn’t have to be for the money it’s just most people associate it with that. I do both types of rap so “art or fiscal” and then intelligence. Do you do if for the love of art or do you do it for the money. I do it for both. (<--- I like that!) RR: Someone compared it to the title of a Barnes and Noble book. HWF: See, I didn’t see that one but I will take that compliment.
RR: Who did the artwork for the album?
HWF: Actually, another artist. He’s on the album on Picasso Emcees. His name is Dustin Prestige, he did the artwork.

Insert: Me giggling because Rob Jay started to shoot some video. I was a little worried about the appearance that day. Straight from the Texans game and rain = puffy hair.

RR: Something else that intrigued me is when I read that rap is your most frequent medium but you are actually just a musician.
HWF: Right.
RR: What other instruments do you play?
HWF: I’ve played piano, for maybe two or three years now and I just started guitar.
RR: Would you do another album that is not a rap album, something totally different?
HWF: I have done songs here and there that are not rap, they haven’t been released. I want to make sure it’s right before I do it. So, when it comes it comes. I don’t want people to think I’m just a rap artist. I want to just do music. If I don’t rap again I can maybe to a piano album when I get to that level. It’s just about making music and I produce as well. I mean I produced all of except for the Cougar song.
RR: I really like All My Love.
HWF: Yeah, it’s kind of a bonus track.
RR: There are only two verses right?
HWF: Yes there are two verses. People get so caught up in this format stuff, just do you.

RR: I was reading where you said, “The goal is to pave a musical path for underprivileged musicians who do not have the ability or money to record their music.”
HWF: Right, and the editors note on that should be who really want to do this. Don’t come to me asking for help but you don’t want to help yourself. Don’t come expecting me to give the world to you when I don’t have the world yet. I am not signed or anything but if I have a resource then you can get that resource as long as you are working hard as well. There is no sense in me working hard and you benefit off of that. Let’s both work hard and lets both benefit.
RR: So you want to help them by doing what? Producing their music?
HWF: Yeah, a lot of time people just can’t afford it. The only reason I started producing was because I couldn’t afford it so I was like let go ahead and learn this stuff.
RR: Ok, one of your song- I’m not sure which one. I should have written it down. Well, you will know.
HWF: I hope I know.
RR: You said, “Do you do you, or do you do what sells?” Do you think that is what’s happening a lot right now? People are doing what sells and not really doing them.
HWF: Oh, one hundred percent I think that. I have to stand by my quote. People are just doing things that sell. Which is fine, some people have babies to look after. I’m not going to knock the hustle but I have to speak on it because I do love the music first. Then, if I get paid off of it- I’m not going to say no.

Watching Family Guy tonight and they mentioned (she actually ran by) Wilma Rudolph. I was pretty shocked because you really ( at least I don't) hear about her often and she was such a pioneer athlete.

Memories: In the third grade I did project where we had to research someone in history, write a biography as if you were that person and dress up like them for your oral report. I chose Wilma Rudolph, mom made me a USA track suit...I was sooo official. Good memories. :)

Blog fam, I must share something with you. I struggle with focus. There, I said it... at least I am not in denial. I don't struggle with ideas or passion for the things I want but the focus part gets me every time! It's like my brain is trying to multi-task with thoughts ALL the time. Not good...I definitely have to get a handle on this focus situation. I do write list, that has helped and I TRY to designate time frames to complete certain task. Right now, I am probably at 20% focus, NOT GOOD.

Ok, done venting..thanks for listening. I feel a little better. Mind is still running though.

......The aid community here has been predicting a disaster for months, saying that the rains had failed once again and that this could be the worst drought in more than a decade. But the Kenyan government, paralyzed by infighting and political maneuvering, seemed to shrug off the warnings.
Some government officials have even been implicated in a scandal to illegally sell off thousands of tons of the nation’s grain reserves as a famine was looming.
So far, a huge, international aid operation to avert mass hunger has not kicked in, or at least not to the degree needed. The United Nations World Food Program recently said that nearly four million Kenyans — about a tenth of the population — urgently needed food.
“Red lights are flashing across the country,” the agency said.

Well here we go, I have finished the first year and Thank Most High that i was a successful and received grades that reflected the past year of 17lb weight loss, Caffeine addiction, lack of sleep, and total abandonment of family and friends. With that said i started my second year of law school inundated with the stress and pressure (from self and world ) to find a job for this summer. Yes i was told that In AUGUST I had to 1. Know what type of law I want to practice and 2. Get a job. Shit. So Began interviewing, and interviewing and interviewing some more. some were good (think laughing great conversation) some were bad (think noticeable silence) but through out the whole process all i could think was how the Grad/Law School process created a system of training corporate lawyers and not Social Engineers, because On average a lawyer, will graduate with six, yes i said six figures in student loan debt when you add grad and undergrad loans. When looking for the Jobs firms use the fact that they pay summer interns $3000-4000 dollars week a major selling point and guess what.. it Works. and the results it the top students who came in with these Big Plans of changing the world (ie me) are forced to really think about the type of life that one wants to have. Do i Big firm it up and put my goals of changing the world on hold or live like a college student for the rest of my life. This thought pattern then forces me into an internal debate/chastise session on how i should be ashamed of myself for alloing money to be a factor in this decesion or would i be niave to leave it out Continuing with the theme of Career and the lifestyle that I feel pressured to decide now is what type of personal life i would like to have. The older I get the more I am reminded of how much i have put my personal life on hold to pursue a career. While i wish i was one of those dupe women who manage to do both I alas am not one of those people. As friends and Family start Families and Get Married and engaged (YAY) The more i feel like kanye when he said "my friend show be pictures of his kids all i had were pictures of my degrees"

Initially, I was a CNN Radio kind of gal. Then, Michael Jackson unfortunately passed away and CNN turned a little, how shall I say it...like Inside Edition? So, with CNN on hold and Pandora wanting to charge me if I listen more than 40 hours a week my work mode listening was NPR. I liked it, but it just didn't stick. NOW....I am all about BBC Radio! Why you ask, I just like it! The news is informative,actually news worthy, interesting and the stories are balanced. Just a little fyi..

I say listen because you don't really need to watch the documentary for it to be worth your while. I will admint to having listened to it about 15 times. Congratulations to Charles O. Malone on his retirement. After beginning his career at Union Pacific Railroad more than 30 years ago working in the train yards, he ended his career as a Senior VP. To commemorate his achievements the same tower he started working at in Chicago, IL was re-named the Malone Tower. So proud of you dad!!

Article from 2007 about the " fresh hot new " line-up being led by Baldwin Hills.

Two things: 1) The article briefly discusses BET being criticized for unoriginal programming. Does Baldwin Hills not attempt to have the same concept as MTV's The Hills? 2) Is this the only way you could figure out to show "affluent" African American families? Have you all heard the intro? There is a part where one of the characters says "Not all Black people live in the hood." Duuuhhh..you live in Baldwin Hills, Compton ("the hood") is down the hill.

Network for Blacks Broadens Its Schedule

LOS ANGELES — On a recent morning in the colorful new office of Black Entertainment Television here, Reginald Hudlin, entertainment president, was tweaking a new docudrama with his team. The show, “Baldwin Hills,” follows the lives of a group of mostly hip, affluent black teenagers, most of whom live in the neighborhood here that gives the show its name. It is one of five shows beginning on the BET network this month, as it introduces 16 shows through 2008, the biggest lineup of debuts in its 27-year history.

“You’re talking about a class of people invisible to the mainstream,” Byron Phillips, executive vice president for entertainment at BET, said of the characters in “Baldwin Hills” as he and other executives watched a flat-screen television showing the teenagers at a party.

“Baldwin Hills” is one element in a BET face-lift. The oldest and largest cable network aimed at African-Americans, it has long depended on reruns, movies and music videos, developing few hits of its own. But now, in an increasingly competitive cable market, BET hopes to freshen its profile.

The war in Iraq was truly an American-only effort Saturday after Britain and Australia, the last of its international partners, pulled out.

Little attention was paid in Iraq to what effectively ended the so-called coalition of the willing, with the U.S. — as the leader of Multi-National Force, Iraq — letting the withdrawals pass without any public demonstration.

The quiet end of the coalition was a departure from its creation, which saw then-U.S. President George W. Bush court countries for support before and after the March 2003 invasion.
"We're grateful to those partners who contributed in the past and we look forward to working with them in the future," military spokesman Army Lt. Col. Mark Ballesteros told The Associated Press in an e-mail.

At its height, the coalition numbered about 300,000 soldiers from 38 countries_ 250,000 from the United States, about 40,000 from Britain, and the rest ranging from 2,000 Australians to 70 Albanians. But most of the United States' traditional European allies, those who supported actions in Afghanistan and the previous Iraq war, sat it out.

Disclaimer: I must preface this edition of "Speak Your Peace" by saying I am in no way referring negatively to anyone involved in the topic I will discuss. (As Katt would say: "Let's not get sensitive people.")

With that said....

As someone who previously worked (many, many hours) in the club scene there is something about it that doen't sit right with me. We all know that one day a club can be hot, the next day it's not, and this is just the nature of the business. The disturbing part is that in recent months what most people would refer to as "urban" crowds have been the stimulus for night spots that have been around for years, and like everyone else are feeling the effects of the recession in some way. Their solution...find promoters that bring in the "urban" crowd. The same crowd they discouraged from coming into their establishment just a year ago. Let that promoter convince the "urban" crowd that because their spot is in midtown or the heights, its the swanky new place to be and then make money off that "urban" crowd on the night they want them to be there. ---Let again stress..the night THEY WANT them to be there because I (and a few other people) have been made very aware that if you try and go into these spots on a non- "urban" night...they are not as welcoming.

Let me preface the statements that will follow by saying in no way am I trying to be-little Notorious B.I.G or the impact that he had on Hip Hop. Without a doubt he is one of the best rappers of our time, his talent and contribution to Hip Hop cannot be denied. HOWEVER, do I think that means there needs to be a "major motion picture" made of his life...no, I don't. If you are a fan, before you stop reading let me just give my explanation of why.

In 2008 there were about 286 movies that were released in most major cities. Of those 286, approximately 8 had a prodominately African American cast and approximately 9 had an African American actor as the main character or in a major role. Take a second to think about what movie, with an African American cast or actor in a major role you saw last year and you left saying dang, that was such a good movie.

[Don't worry...I'll wait (Katt Williams moment).]

Seriously, I thought about it and the only movies I could think of were The Great Debaters which came out in 2007, American Gangster which also came out in 2007 , Miracle at St. Anna and This Christmas, which was ok but it was really just Soul Food with a Christmas theme. I heard Traitor (2008) was a good movie but I can't speak on it because I never saw it.

It's is almost like the movie industry has the freakin' BET Syndrome. Movies with African American actors are either about 1) a person of another nationality "pulling us out of the gutter" to give us a better life and a chance to really "make it" 2) a successful African American family that has lost touch with their roots and is brought back to them through some tragic occurance 3) an athlete (which I don't think there is anything wrong with chronicling the life of an athlete that has broken racial barriers) 4) a successful black woman struggling to find and keep a good man 5) a musician or group (I must say most of those movies are good, I am thinking of the Temptations and the Dream Girls type of movies) or 6) foolishness, i.e First Sunday and The Wash ...(I could go on and on in this category)

Now it is 2009 and the major motion picture they are pushing, and when I say they I mean BET (you know how I feel about them), MTV, VH1, Bloggers (even some of my fellow Houston bloggers), promoters, everyone is....NOTORIOUS! If we continue to support these sub par movies then they will continue to be made and probably get worse and worse. I almost feel like if someone put out a movie called Coonery and it starred the most popular comedian, rapper and video chick at the moment people would go see it. Don't get me wrong, I know movies are for entertainment and I completely believe you can bring Hip Hop to the big screen. A perfect example is Fade to Black. I love that movie and its really just a full concert and a documentary but it proves that yes we can bring the Hip Hop culture to the big screen but we need to be aware of the manner in which we are doing it. I would have much rather seen a well done documentary on Biggie's life opposed to what looks like a SNL skit with dramatic actors not comedians. Have I seen the movie no, but I have I watched many clips, yes. So, will I be seing the movie...NO!

EX- Officer Charged with Murder in BART Shooting

(CNN) -- A former transit police officer accused of shooting an unarmed man at a Northern California commuter train station has been arrested and charged with murder, an Alameda County district attorney said Wednesday.

What I feel the evidence indicates is an unlawful killing done by an intentional act," district attorney Tom Orloff told reporters at a news conference.

"From the evidence we have there's nothing that would mitigate that to something lower than a murder," he added. "The murder charge was the appropriate charge given the state of the evidence."

Former Bay Area Rapid Transit Officer Johannes Mehserle, 27, was arrested Tuesday evening in Nevada, Orloff said.

He waived extradition and police officers were transporting him back to California on Wednesday.

Orloff said Mehserle's attorney has invoked his client's right to remain silent.

"In terms of an interview at this point in time, our hands are tied," he said.

I met Calvin (I still call him CJ) my freshman year at North Carolina A &T. I could say so many wonderful things about him, but I will sum it up by saying that he has such a wonderful and genuine spirit. He is always encouraging people to grow spiritually and live life to the fullest. I, like many of the people he knows, am SO proud of him and glad to call him my friend.

Mr. Calvin F. Williams, Jr. is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of XMG Web Designs. Williams was born in Silver Spring, MD and currently resides in Greensboro, NC. Since the age of 12, he has had an entrepreneurial spirit. It was then Williams started his first business venture, a lawn care service company cutting grass for people in his neighborhood.

As a freshman at North Carolina Agricultural & State University, Williams began designing websites for non-profit organizations. He then realized a gap between businesses and web designers. Diligently, Williams spent the next couple of years developing a business plan to eliminate this gap. His desire was to create an innovative service provider. The plan involved Williams along with a group of other dedicated, talented individuals. Williams’ dream culminated in the creation of XMG Web Designs and was the advent of his success.

During his collegiate years, Williams served as President of the Student Government Association of North Carolina A&T State University. I was extremely happy she was able to stay with us for a while during Christmas break!

We definitely had good times with all three roomies in the house, and some interesting conversations. (wink Kara..)

Clearly I am a little late on J-Dilla because the first time I even heard about him was about a month ago in Ryan's (shout out to my roomie) car. I am not even sure what CD she has but I thought the tracks were really good and was sad to hear that he is not no longer with us. When I asked a few other people about him some knew of him and some didn't. I posted this picture and video because I started thinking about how sad it is that good musicians, rappers and producers don't always get the same exposure and attention as the "mainstream" acts AND that music like his is not pushed to become more of the norm instead of the exception. So, hopefully another person that has not heard of J-Dilla will take a few moments to google him and watch a few of his you tube videos.

Can someone PLEASE, PLEASE fill me in on the rationale behind this scenario.

First: You are in the club or some other social atmosphere and a camera man (or woman) ask to take your picture.

Second: You say yes.

Third: You reach in your pocket and pull out all of your money. (depending on the person, it might be all of the money they have at that particular time or all the money they have...period)

Fourth: Camera flashes.

Fifth: You put the money back in your pocket.

What is that?? Seriously. Did you go to the bank before you left for the club? Do you just want everyone to know you have money. Why? Terrorist Exit Plan Revealed

(MUMBAIMORROR.COM) The terrorists who massacred over a hundred people in the city last week had a definite plan of retreat which included a Pakistani ship waiting in the high seas to take them back home.

After they had finished firing and causing maximum damage at their respective areas of operation, CST, the Taj and the Trident, the terrorists were supposed to take some hostages and using them as human shield, negotiate for a boat to drop them to the high seas.

Azam Amir Qasab, the terrorist in custody of crime branch has told police that he and others in the group had been told by their handlers back in Pakistan that they would be saved as long as they managed to come to the sea after the attack. In fact swimming upto fifteen kilometres into the sea was part of the group's endurance training.

According to Qasab, his colleague at CST, Md Ismail Khan, who was leading the group and who was shot dead at Chowpatty, had briefed them that they were supposed to take hostages after the attack and retreat to Cuffe Parade. From there they were supposed to take the same dinghy they came in, or negotiate for a boat, and take the same route they used to come to Mumbai. "In the high sea, they were told, there would be a ship waiting to ferry them back," said a senior officer with the crime branch, not wishing to be identified.

"They may have been fooled into believing that their lives could have been saved. But the instance of Kandhahar hijack was cited where top terrorists were freed to make them believe that their returning home was also possible. Their bosses had told them that even if some of them died in the operation, most of them would be saved," said the officer.

BET stand for Black Entertainment Television...are we only entertained by music, entertainment news, and sports? What BET! Black man is president you don't have one documentary? Not one! Even if you could not get an interview at least put a few pictures and video clips together, interview a few family members, get some sound bites and call it a day!

Seriously, if the stock market crashed and all you watched was BET you wouldn't even know it because I have NEVER, seen a stock ticker across the bottom of the screen. Not ever...have you? I would rather have the old BET back! At least they were moving in the right direction with Tavis Smiley, Teen Summit, World News, Video Soul...what happened!? Every year it's video awards get better, programming gets worse. 106 & Park gets a new set, programming still bad. They get more host, the worse the show titles become.

What are we going to do? Really, I would love to hear suggestions because personally, I already don't watch it but it is going to take more than me.

(CBS/AP) Somali pirates have collected more than $150 million in ransoms over the past year, Kenya's foreign affairs minister said Friday, calling on ship owners not to pay when their vessels are hijacked.

In the past two weeks Somalia's increasingly brazen pirates have seized eight vessels including a huge Saudi supertanker loaded with $100 million worth of crude oil. Several hundred crew are now in the hands of Somali pirates.

"We are advised that in the last 12 months, ransom to the excess of $150 million has been paid to these criminals and that is why they are becoming more and more audacious in their activities," Kenyan Foreign Minister Moses Wetangula said.

Saudi Arabia's foreign minister said Friday that the Saudi government was not and would not negotiate with pirates, but what the ship's owners did was up to them.

Meanwhile, the world's largest oil tanker company warned that it may divert cargo shipments, which would boost costs up to 40 percent.

Frontline Ltd., which ferries five to 10 tankers of crude a month through the treacherous Gulf of Aden, said it was negotiating a change of shipping routes with some of its customers, including oil giants Exxon Mobil, Shell, BP and Chevron.

Martin Jensen, Frontline's acting chief executive, said that sending tankers around South Africa instead would extend the trip by 40 percent.

Bermuda-based Frontline plans to make a decision whether to change shipping routes within a week, Jensen said.

"It's not only our costs, but also those of the people who have a $100 million cargo on board," Jensen said. "We're not going to make a unilateral decision so we've been debating this with our customers."

My career as a seamstress first started at age 11 when sewing my older brother's khaki pants with floss to fit me so I could have clothes to wear to school since we were so poor and we had to wear uniforms to school. If I would have known that everyone would be a designer today 10 yrs ago when I first started, I would have fell in love with something else. But Fashion is my first love and will always be!!! I'm known for stealing the spotlight but I don't want no drama, I got it from my mama! LOL... I am very lucky because clothes just fall in my hands and are donated to me so I use my creative eye for best pieces so in addition to selling my own clothes/items I also sell clothes I feel will sell on the market for a low price! Regularly you'd pay alot in a store for them. I feel I should not need to tax you high for something that comes so natural to me but still I am not perfect. Show me a man who has no issues, no flaws and a perfect life and I will show you that this man is a liarrrrrr.....I recycle/refurbish fabric and the clothes to make new purses, pillows, totes or whatever else it is the client is asking for or what comes to my mind. So when you buy something from me that I personally make, you won't have to worry about seeing someone having the same thing ever and in a world of slave labor, "oohhh girl what chu got onssss" and the people who think they are messiahs spreading their images through clothing, I WILL remain a positive source in this industry. Originality is the key to my success, let it be yours too :D

I am not a celebrity, nor am I rich, I am just an Artist. But one of these days, I will will have sooo much money and do more things and continue to inspire soooo many people with my love and Art! One of these days..

I have various occupations because I can't stand to be held down doing one thing and I have this mad crazy energy!!! I wake up at like 7 am each morning even if super tired from working or photoshoots and even if I'm hungover just so I can start the day! I model, promote, sew, clean & organize houses and businesses, edit photos for clients, I Act, babysit, and build stages for Fashion shows. I've been called alot of things in my life like out there, too much, uncensored, blah blah blah but the one thing you defiantly can't call me is lazy and atleast I'm reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal and I have my integrity, and I intend to keep it thank you very much!!!

Other than proving to the world that we are all equal and all my other jobs or spreading love & peace, I design the sets, the clothes, choose the other models, choose the photographer, choose which photos to use from the set and even edit the pics myself.. I also just starting singing and found out I'm pretty badass with a 5 Octave range~! I want a band or 2 eventually but till then I lend my vocals and stage prescense as I gain experience, it's fun! I am also practicing my high octaves by singing Yma Sumac R.I.P! I am forming my own sound that will be just as unique as my clothing or anything else I do.

Church Notes

Attended Lakewood Church on Sunday. Joel preached about living without crutches...no matter what your religious preference, I think we can all relate to the notes I jotted down. Personally, I wrote these thoughts down so I could remember to keep them in mind in my daily life. Maybe they will help you out in your life as well...peace~

Everyone is not in your life forever, accept when a persons season is over in your life.

When God closes a door it is because he has something better for you. If you don't freely let that person go you are blocking the next person and blessing. (I hear that!!)

RETRACTION

In a previous blog entry I blasted CNN for using the title "Boozing Superhero" for an article about Will Smith's movie Hancock. Ignorantly, before commenting on the article I had not seen the movie. Let me just say, Will Smith, you were wrong for agreeing to be (as CNN said) "A Boozing Superhero". When the producers told Will Smith he would be flying in the sky drinking a bottle of whiskey, he said sure, when he should have said...ummm..probably not. It's not like he is strapped for cash.
